I just got a motu 828. Installed on my G4 dual 1.25 dual boot in OS 9.2 and am using it with cubase 5.1.

It only works on and off. It often crashes Cubase, and after rebooting my g4 won't even see the 828. I have to switch it off and on (the 828) in order for the G4 to recognize it. And then it crashes Cubase again and again. Sometimes it does work, but I can't figure out why.
Would anyone know? I called Steinberg and Motu, but they can't help.

Btw, this is the second machine I am trying, I already brought one back!

Hello there,

Whenever I boot my brand new G4 dual bootable, dual 1.25gig processor in 9.2.2, I get static noise from it (through speakers, line in, or Cd, and also when I use a headphone in the front socket of the g4). i have tried everything, clean install, zapping the Pram, erased the hard drive and done a clean install again, switched off all other equipment, taken out the Ram and pci cards, i still get the static noise.

However, when i boot up in OS 10, the noise disappears. I want to work in 9.2.2 though, that's why I bought this machine in the first place. The noise is very annoying to say the least.

has anyone any experience with this?

I have been on the phone with apple for half the day!

thanks,

Ulli

Hello,

I have to upgrade now from my good old beige G3, b/c I am running out of processing power!

I probably won't dare to take the plunge with a G5 just yet, so which G4 would be the best (second hand or new) to buy? And which OS should I use and which audio card? At the moment I am using the audio in/out from my Mac.

I have Cubase 5, Recycle, reason and rebirth. I will need a sccsi card for my sccsi audio drive and to connect with my sampler to send stuff from recycle over. Should I get a serial card/connection with the G4 to connect my serial midi interface or get a usb one? (I heard the usb midi interfaces weren't as good as the serial ones?)

I am going to the Mac Expo in London this week, and would like to be able to ask some intelligent questions.... :-)

Thank you for taking your time and giving some advice if you can.
