Alright, so after much reviewing I decided to get the Logic Audio Big Box for Christmas as it seemed the best deal for what I wanted to do. It finally came today (it was on backorder). Well, after MWSF I decided I would return the Big Box and get an iPod instead, since Garage band looks like it will be adequate for what I want to do. So I opened up the package and took out the Big Box. What eMagic does it put the 4 seperate software boxes inside a larger, see thru plastic box. To my suprise, the Logic box says Platinum on it. Did I just get lucky or do they all say that? I don't want to open up the actual box since I want to return it. Can somebody with the Big Box tell me what's up? Thanks

Alright, I'm thinking of getting the Edirol PC-70 midi controller ... however, what's the difference between that and the, say, PCR-80? I can see that the PCR-80 has many more sliders, buttons, etc. However, these simply control onscreen parameters, correct? Also, I'm guessing these are controlled by the USB, hence the PC-70 has no sliders, buttons, etc. I want something inexpensive and that has quite a few octaves ... but it doesn't matter to me that I have to control parameters via the mouse, so will the PC-70 be a good solution for me?

Alright, I've tried to find answers to my questions in the forums, but I'm still confused. I'm new to computer recording and am unsure as what I need. Currently I have a 17" iMac and a Tascam US-428.
Basically I just want to multitrack with guitar and voice. I've never really used midi, but in the future I may add a midi keyboard. As I understand it, the midi keyboard plays sounds off your computer correct? For example you could chose a grand piano sound set and the notes are controlled by the keyboard. Now when you record a guitar or vocal, it shows up as a waveform. Does midi do the same thing? Say your drum track is midi, is it going to show up in the tracks window below the guitar track? Any suggestions as to what software would work best for me? It has to be reasonably cheap, 300 or less. I've looked at Cubase, Logic, and DP, but they all seem like way to much for what I want to do. Would I be best getting something like ProTools LE? thanks. |
