I am looking at getting the Logic Big Box based off Logic 5. It's less than half the price of v6 and has all the plug-in's I am looking for to work off my iBook. It's plenty of firepower! Any ways, Logic 5 had no OSX support (or so I thought). But eMagic has released an update for OSX support (secretly it looks) ......am I right in thinking that? See: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/audi...icplatinum.html
So, in my recent software enlightenments, I have realized that Ableton is a CPU pig. Granted it's a differant beast, you can double your track count on Logic. The issue is plain 'ol optimization, Ableton has failed to understand that a solid percentage of it's (paying) users are rockin Powerbooks. So in the interests of taking full advantage of my half-ghz iBook.... ...has anyone played with Girl? It's mac native and a Beta OSX version has come out. I grabbed me up a demo copy. http://girl.yowstar.com
I am looking at laptops to bring stuff to rehersals. I am really not impressed by the cheasy PC notebooks out there. The hardware can be a joke.
I had an iMac 33mhz and was always struggling with how slow it was. So I'm kinda worried about stepping into the sub-gig world of processors. But am hoping OSX makes up for it.
I plan on using Ableton modestly, as well as some sort of replacment for Fruity Loops to assemble loops.
What can I expect in terms of preformance?
i'm in a pretty straight ahead rock band as keyboard/guitar player and i wanna introduce some idm elements to the mix. so i might get my hands on a clamshell ibook dv. since all my stuff is off pc platform, this may not be the wisest choice. however, i feel like mac is really where i wanna be anyways. i have been using fruity loops pretty heavily and would like to switch to something for the mac platform that has is simple and familier for organic sample based loop-ology. what would you suggest....and am i even on the right track? so many thnxin advance yall!
