Heya all,

I saw something on the web the other day that I thought was interesting. I'm sure they've been around for 1000 years but they're new to me. Several companies have a 4 channel 1U compressor available. How convenient! Have any you tried any of these or are any of you using one of these? I'd be very interested to know how you like it, how it behaves, and how well the basic functions of a compressor/limiter/gate are implemented in your particular unit.

cheers,
D

Hello all,

I've come to an interesting point in the growth of my studio and I'm a bit stuck on where to go now. Just a brief rundown of what I've got:

3 mixers:
16 channel which i'm using as my main board (mackie 1604).
24 channel rack thay i'm running all the synths/sampler to (this has a submix bus).
8 channel that i'm going to use for analogue instruments (has stereo out and monitor out).

recording:
ADAT (not in use at the moment)
Mac G3 (yosemite) with M-Audio Delta 44.

Right now I have the mains from the 24ch and 8ch running to 4channels (2 stereo) on the 16ch. I have delta mains (2ch) also to the 16ch.

The problem is that I want to be able to do live jam recording without mixing it stereo first. The same problem occurs with synth recording, I either record 1 synth at a time or mix multiple synths to stereo and record that. I think it would be better to have each source on it's own track.

Is there a way to do this without buying like a 16 input recording interface? If I were to get a more recordable ins, how would I set up the mixers so that I could utilize them? Something like direct outs to a patchbay? I guess I'm just getting confused about what to do now to grow. I'd like to have a drumset somewhere (another at least 4 channels of input needed)..

I'm starting to get a bit tangled here thinking of what/how to write this stuff in an understandable way. Perhaps it would be easiest to stop here and try answering questions you might have. I'll run down what I have as far as sound sources:

approx 32 ch of synth outs
up to 16 ch of analogue outs
the 3 mixers
and 4 ch audio ins from sound card.

...ok. now i'm gettin' batty blink.gif .

i'll answer any questions you have, and would LOVE suggestions on gear, setup or other that you might have!!!

thanks,
John

hello all,

I was just wondering who might be the responsible party for trying to get a freemidi compatible usb driver for the midisport 8x8 writen. I'm aware that I can use the OMS->FreeMidi setup but think that it's a bit daft. I'd like to have FreeMidi as my only midisystem b/c I'm using DigitalPerformer, b/c further developement on OMS has been stopped, and the process for making patch files for OMS that will show up in DP through FreeMidi is a total pain (not to mention not 100% reliable).

I don't know who I should start trying to contact. I've tried contacting both M-Audio and MOTU but received no response from either. I just wanted to know if there were any plans to develope anything to remedy the short coming. I'd even write the thing myself if I could get the specs for midisport, freemidi, and mac usb API.

anyone have any suggests or comments?
take care,

Greetings all,

I'm at my wicks end here. Just thought I'd throw the question out to see if anyone had had the same experience. I'm a SVP user and have switched to DP b/c well.. we all know what happened to SVP. After the long run around with trying to get DP3.11 to work with my non-motu usb interface and other hassles, i've finally got a system that will run. sort of. DP decides that when it's closed, it's going to take the whole machine with it.the machine freezes. no mouse, no keyboard, no movement of time. angry.gif

i'm a bit upset with b/c i've been using mac for close to 10 years now and i'm just kinda fed up with this kind of behavior. then to boot, they switch the freakin' OS so now i'll have to upgrade to get the newer version of my music software... nickel and dime ya to death. even after the overpriced machines/software/hardware. i'm seriously thinking about switchign to a MS setup b/c i can get a bigger bang for my buck hardware-wise and software is less expensive as well... and well, it won't be so dang touchy. i'm glad that my hardware is external biggrin.gif (usb etc.).

if you think this will help:
blue&white yosemite
g3 450MHz (i think that's what in there.. )
768MB ram
DP3.11 (yes i bought it)
M-Audio delta 44
midiman midisport 8x8

the thing is, it's a pain. a big pain.. is annoying sitting down to work out some ideas and have to deal with this stuff EVERY time.always searching the web for possible problems with something that seems to me to be fairly straight foward.

p.s. no, i do not want to upgrade to OSX because, i'm not going to go through this again and i don't wanna keep shelling out money for this. although if there is the possibility for a seemless transition to OSX then i guess i'd give it a go... but jeeeez is it frustrating as hell..

p.p.s. sorry folks for the rant.. just need some help and i guess needed to vent a bit as well. take care.
