My Emu e5000 Ultra works fine with SCSI under OS9.2. I use it to transfer samples from/to my G4 using Bias Peak and Recycle.
I have a Grappler 906F SCSI card (Orange Micro). I can use my SCSI-scanner and SCSI-harddrives under OSX but I Peak can't find my samper under OSX. I tried all the flash-updates from the Orange Micro website. Is it possible to use a SCSI sampler under OSX? Do I need another SCSI card? Am I overlooking something else? I am curious to experiences from other SCSI-sampler-OSX headz |

Hi meneer de koekepeer (ik wilde net wat zeggen, maar nu weet ik het niet meer )
I'm using a akai s3000xl with os x and it's working fine. I have a adaptec scsi card, and i'm using spark xl to tranfer my samples. I've also tried peak, but peak didn't see my sampler either. Strange, i suggest you try spark to check if if that works. But still I think compatibility with scsi-samplers under os x could be better. I have a zip-drive between the akai and my mac, and erery time I put in a akai disc, os x wants a/ to format it (which i obviously don't want) b/ eject it (no option either because i want to read samples wih my akai) c/ ignore it (that seems to be the solution, but as it turns out I can't eject it until I shut down my mac) Well, life's bitch |

The only differnce is speed, the 2906 is just scsi-2 as far as i remember. The thing in your scsi-chain with the lowest throughput determines the speed of the entire chain. So, if you have a scsi1 or 2 device in your chain, the 2906 will do fine, Otherwise choose the 2930, since your harddrive will probably operate much faster with that.
I assume you use the harddrive only for you sampler? Otherwise it could be wise to look for a dual-scsi card, harddrives on one channel, the rest on the other. |

ok, this reply is almost a year later...
I now have 2 scsi cards in my G4 (adaptec 2906 and grappler 906F) and... 2 samplers! EMU e5000 and AKAI S1100. Now under OSX 10.3.4 there is no way i can reach my samplers. apart from the fact that panther is very unfriendly towards scsi devices... Peak and ReCycle have dropped their sampler support under panther. still switching to OS9.2, which works fine connecting to both samplers but is kind of a hassle restarting all the time. so this is what i want to do: get me a 2nd hand USB laptop and use that for connecting to my samplers under OS9. And now my question: Is it possible to connect to SCSI samplers using a USB <-> SCSI converter? (or perhaps FireWire <-> SCSI) |

It is kind of general, and editors are dropping SCSI sampler support discreetly
I will have another computer soon (once I find a bipro G4 at a reasonable price -sorry Apple, I can't buy a glorious G5 without some help) and the old trusty BW G3 will stay for 8.6 (for my prepress scanners…) and in 9 for music (5000 Ultra). -------------------- Our Classifeds • Nos petites annonces • Terms Of Service / Conditions d'Utilisation • Forum Rules / Règles des Forums • MacMusic.Org & SETI@Home

Hi
I gave up trying to get a SCSI card to work under OSX with a Sampler it was just too much of a pain I'm now thinking of getting a secondhand powerbook just to run with scsi for the sampler. TTFN Subcoustic |
