Greetings!

I come to you all today in Peace and the Spirit of Music.
I seek your wise council..........

THE CHALLENGE: To build a home/portable/DAW studio that rests contentedly under the cool phrase "couldn't have done any better".......a "no regrets" studio!!

TECHNOLOGY ALREADY EMPLOYED: Powerbook G4/800/512/40 ....Reason 2.5....Oxygen 8.......( i also intend to add a 2gig dual G5 within the next year)

TECHNOLOGY BEING CONSIDERED: MOTU 828 MKII, MOTU 896, Mobile I/O 2882....I have narrowed my choices down to these three interfaces, I will choose one, feel free to voice opinions outside these boxes, i am still open

SOFTWARE BEING CONSIDERED: Logic platinum 6.....Digital Performer 4.......also considering Nuendo for VST System Link capabilities???? Is this VST SL worth investing in, relatively speaking, with all aspects of total goal(See THE CHALLENGE, FURTHER CLARIFICATION, and also G5 intention) considered? again, open to suggestions outside parameters...

FURTHER CLARIFICATION: I desire a studio where I can mix REASON with live instruments.....acoustic guitars, Djembes, electric guitar/bass, Vocals(with crazy effects),Drums, keyboards, midi and alot of effects units....i do want the capability to record several or more people playing together as well...i want to be able to do whatever i can dream of, and i want my dreams to be expandable and mutable. Live performance is another consideration; i want to be able to use Reason live with the oxygen 8......and i would like the option to be able to trigger preprogrammed presequenced "stuff" when playing live (record the live band too), so i don't know if that brings up latency issues and contrasts betwen the various options i am considering here.....

So, I am just trying to avoid the "hindsight is always 20/20" syndrome that seems to plague so many in this binary jungle-labyrinthine enigma......what would you do/combine?........if you have knowledge, please do bestow, it comes back 3x, this you must know......thanks alot and smash the old laws, do not buy The Lie That All Men Believe, you will see that we never left The Garden, The Living One is eternal, You have and have been chosen...Peace on Earth smile.gif smile.gif

I don't know anything about the mobile I/O 2882 but... The 828 mk II only has two mic pre's whereas the 896 has 8. This would be a limitation since you want to get into live recording. Although you could start off with the 828 mk II (it seems like a more than capable interface) and then when do get into live recording, expand it with an 896. As for the logic vs DP4 debate, I'm still workin' on that one. I've heard many times (including from my previous post on the subject) that both are awesome to work with. One factor to consider is that the 828 and the 896 come with the Audio Desk workstation software which is upgradable to DP4 for something like $300. Other things I've heard (keep in mind these are things i've heard from other people):
DP4 has much more surround sound capabilities whereas logic hardly has any. don't know if that 's an issue but it could be for some.
Logic has more extensive midi capabilities.

Hope this helps,
Take care.

Thanks for your help lync....

Yes, actually I saw DP4 and the 896 bundled for $1509, but then i started seeing a lot of negativity about DP4 being posted and Emagic is now owned by Apple so i wonder if thats the better investment; arghh.....i wish for certainty, sometimes one just has to take the plunge.....thanks again...

True it is tough.. See my post on the issue of Dp4 vs Logic. PETERKIRN has some helpful advice on the issue.
Take care.
