 Drums+instruments For Backing Tracks, I want to back up my guitar |

I'm totally new to this stuff so if I ask something stupid, don't laugh.
 I want to start to record some of my own guitar stuff through a M-Audio MobilePre USB and into DP4. But just electric guitar sounds a little boring so I would like to back the guitar up with drums and strings for example. Do you guys have any tips what programs would be good for that? I have absolutely no clue with all those software synthesizers and plug-ins. Also, how would I control those synthesizers and plug-ins then? Would I have to buy an Oxygen 8 or something like that? I was just looking around and found Battery from NI. The sound samples are very good, does anybody have any experience with it?
If you don't know Battery, it's for drums. |

Try Reason, with a midi controller like Oxygen 8 or something. Reason is great, will give you all kinds of cool synths, and it comes with a sampler so you can play strings and drums.

Reason does look good but I didn't get anything out of the demo version.
Native Instrument's Kompakt looks good too... |

Try Doggiebox (www.doggiebox.com) for the drums. It's cheap (29 € I guess) and easy to learn and use. And you'll become part of the doggiebox-community ;-).
And have a look at the free Sampletank instruments (www.sampletank.com and click on SampletanK FREE Sounds!). All the basic instruments are there. Of course you need a midi keyboard. Good luck! |

Thx! I really gotta get me an Oxygen 8 now to try some demos of different programs.
Or would you recommend a different MIDI keyboard? |

most any soft sampler made for DP will suit you fine but... you can always just search the net for free samples of drum loops etc. and learn to splice and dice them and arrange yourslef to save money but samplers will make it easier especially if you have a midi keyboard controller to use with it.

Yeah, I'll probably get the Evolution MK-249C. It's pretty cheap and seems to be good.
I'll try out some demos and free samplers and then decide if I want one and which sampler to get. |
