I'm having some problems with DP4 and a pair of 896s on a powerbook G4 under OSX.

I'm (very) new to the mac - switched to it because I was tired of having to fight my computer every time I wanted to record something.. ;-)

Obviously I don't get out of things that easily.

Anyway, I have a pair of MOTU 896es connected to the same firewire bus, and although they both show up in the firewire console that MOTU provides, DP can only see one of them.

Whichever interface is not currently active sits there flipping back and forth between 44.1khz and 48khz sample rate.

I've connected a word clock cable between the interfaces, and between my board (a RAMSA DA-7) and the interfaces...

Any and all advice appriciated

Get the latest OS X Firewire drivers from Motu:s website.

Uninstall the old drivers.
Remove the wordclock cable.
Reinstall the new drivers.
Daisychain the two 896 interfaces
( G4-->896-->896)

Poer up the G4 login
Power up first 896, let it stabilize
Power up second 896, let it stabilize (hopefully)
Start DP4
Go to Setup-menu --> Configure Audiosystem -- Configure Hardware Driver
Your 896:es should turn up in the configure dialog.
Select them & perhaps set other params in the dialog - klick OK.

Nows the time to maybe reconnect the wordclock cable if you really need it for something.

Good luck: Dixiechicken

Okay, now I've got DP talkign to both drivers (the trick was to shift-click both drivers in the driver selection window) and to my board, but I can't seem to record-enable any two pairs named the same thing at once - I think maybe it's because they're named the same. Is there any way to name audio pairs in CoreAudio?

Hmm... - Maybe go to menu:
Setup --> Configure Audio System --> Configure Studio Size

In "Studio Configuration"-dialog try upping the size of your studio from
"Latte" to "Cafe'o'Rama". ( as an example )

See if your computer will let you assign more busses & voicesto cover both 896:es???

Cheers: Dixiechicken
