Osx Completely Froze Options

well i just upgraded my g4 to jaguar today. after i installed i realized that i never put os 9.2 on first (i had not updated in a while). i have a big mac reference manual and it recommends that you install os 9 before you install osx. so i went back and redid everything, installing os 9.2 first and then osx (i wanted to initialize my disk before any installation and start fresh). during the second attempt to install osx, the installer screen said that there was some kind of error during the installation so the computer rebooted and the installation started over. after that little hiccup, everything seemed to be smooth. after osx was completely installed, i installed my new version of logic audio platinum 5.4 for osx. then i installed reason 2.0. finally, i downloaded and installed the audiowerk 8 driver for osx. i have said all of this just to tell you this next part, which has worried me the most. i went back into reason to activate the audiowerk 8 driver and when i did, some kind of static-type sound came out of the little computer speaker and the entire os froze. even the cursor wouldnt move. i have never had anything like this happen in osx before and ive been using it on my ibook for many months now. it happened all the time to me on os9, but usually in osx when an application started to "mess up" i could just force quit and everything was fine. this time i had to hit the reset button on the front of my computer. i just wanted to mention that here to see if anyone else has ever had something like this happen to them in osx. i typed the whole process of how i upgraded so that possibly someone could tell me if that had anything to do with it. im just a little worried cause i spent a whole lot of money on some new applications in the past few months just so i could get my audio set up on osx and now that i have, im afraid i may have done something terribly wrong. i just need a little reassurance. sorry for being so long winded. thanks.

well i don't think it matters with you install 9 b4 or after X . I have done both at different times .

I wouldn't worry about your installation as if you have any problems you can do an reinstall very easily . If you are confident with your application prefs are ok do an archive install (look in the options ) other wise do the non archive and you will have to create a new admin user again . this presumes you are using jaguar if you aren't get it as x.1 is not as featured and audio oriented . X1 won't do this
if you create a seperate user application folder ~/applications U will not have to reinstall some applications . be aware that some ap's need to go into the root/applications folder (like the ones installed by the os instatllation cd) while others don't (for instance safari)and can be put whereever you like in your user area . the only point to creating a 2nd applications folder is if you do a reinstall of the os you don't have to reinstall these applications they remain untouched where they were whereas all the "system" ap's are nuked and replaced again . having the 2nd application folder can save you a lot of time and mean that instead of trying to trouble shoot you just get rid of the problem by a quick reinstall (or at least you know the os isn't the cause )of the os X.2 . a lot of people spend hours trouble shooting during which you could have reinstalled the os several times . and at least some of the time got rid of their problem . os x is a lot more robust than 9 in this department but it has been my experience that errant applications or beta applications or bad crashes can still corrupt the os or the prefs or something who needs to find out what unless it keeps reoccuring
for instance not demounting a networked hardrive b4 putting machine to sleep will cause spinning wheels and you will be foreced to reboot with the pwr button .
also do you know about the fsck -y routine when starting up . (hold command s on reboot ) then wait for the instruction to do this keep running the routine till no errors found then type reboot . this runs system diskrepair , I always do this after crash or occasionally anyway . i know your not supposed to need to but a reboot every now and then seems to refressh the finder , give the os a break while you have one .

usually your audio/midi drivers are wiped by a reinstall of os so you have to reinstall them .

just follow the heirachy that the X wants to create root / users / documents ......
and be careful not to delete os X folders when you are booted from os 9.
