High Efficiency Video Coding, abbreviated in HEVC, also known as H.265, is a successor to currently most commonly used video compression format H.264, which is said to double the data compression ratio compared with the previous. Video encoded with HEVC will maintain the high visual quality, but at a smaller file size. Compared with the H.264/MPEG-4 AVC High profile, the average bitrate reduction for HEVC was 52% for 480p, 56% for 720p, 62% for 1080p, and 64% for 4K UHD.

Though popular as it being for its higher definition and smaller size, as a new codec, many multimedia players and video editing tools don't keep the pace with the codec. So sometimes, you may need to edit the H.265 HEVC footages in Final Cut Pro X/7/6 for better sharing. But may have import issues one or another while loading them to FCP to do further editing. To solve those problems, the quick workaround is to encode H.265 footage to FCP compatible format - Apple ProRes MOV. Along with some help from third-party software UFUSoft HD Video Converter for Mac.
