As someone new to recording, I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction, in terms of EQing Amplitube in a mix (well, I guess any Ampsim will do) so it doesn't sound like "Wall of Sound" (which is an euphemism for...well, you know).

Or is the EQing ampsim game pretty much the same as EQing real amps?

Anyone have any websites that are perfect for beginners?

Thanks.

The same techniques should still apply since IK multimedia has gone to some significant lengths to reproduce the sound sans-amp....I've used a couple of amp sims in my day and I occasionally still use an old pod when I just want to get an idea down without having to break out the mic and signal chain. I like the way sims sound but they wreak havoc on my CPU. They sure sound good though (when they aren't making my computer stutter). One cool tip Ive heard is taking your "in the box" recorded guitars, and putting a compressor plug of choice on them and playing them thru your monitors and stereo miking the monitors with the mics set back a couple of feet to get a "roomier" sound....even just a little of that worked into the mix will go a long way toward making them sit better with the other instruments.. Here is a series of articles that is pretty funny and informative as well:
