I have Logic Pro 8 and I run DP 6 with some of the MOTU PCI and Firewire gear as well as ProTools LE using a Digi-003r.
After I had upgraded to ProTools LE 8, Logic started crashing and won't boot fully. It keeps crashing a few seconds after it starts processing CORE AUDIO.
Any suggestions?
I'm about to perform a clean install on the MacPro but I don't want to do that given everything that is installed on it.

First things to try are : - To make some clean up with Apple Disk Utility (repair drive and permissions). The best would to do so booting from the OS X instal DVD and select the disk utility from the utilities menu. - To go deeper with Onyx, using the Automation part (select everything save SpotLight indexing and Mailboxes indexing) - To dive into the Audio MIDI utility (in apps/utilities), and verify/change settings. You can eventually trash its preferences on the way. - Check into the Console to see if there's an entry telling what exactly made Logic crash at the Core Audio step.

Personally I use Applejack to do my permissions repair in my studio. It's solved 99% of my 'mysterious crash/quit' situations. It's free to download from here: http://applejack.sourceforge.net/And well worth a donation if you find it as useful as I do!

OnyX do things that Applejack does not and the common routines are the same shell commands. (now everyone should have Applejack installed especially now that it's leopard compatible). Given it can be among the things Applejack does not, OnyX is a better choice. For example, the ex update_prebinding now the "shared caches dyld" is a good candidate and available in OnyX. (it's in maintenance). I'd add, given Applejack is in set to work in Single User Mode, it's very unsexy and unmaclike (but it's a GREAT utility that save lives everyday!) but it's a bad argument. ^^ Note for our friend alchemy, you can wipe the caches of Audio Units with OnyX in cleaning/user. Another track to follow.

Citation (alchemy @ jeu 16 avr 2009, 22:26) I read the reviews of Onyx and a lot of people lost data and had crashed drives. Is it safe? Some people have all the luck and run after utilities just out of the factory, or use them without checking if it's the last version, or on new system versions, BAD ideas… I've never had issues with OnyX, but I'm mean and wicked. Citation Here is a copy of the console as well as the report of the crash. Well, difficult to say what did the trick. It's mainly some Logic itself, or CoreAudio, or Rewire threads. So check Rewire too. And it's a bus error (so it meddled with memory in some way and crashed the thing). I'd test the memory in case, you can use the Apple Hardware test that is on you original install DVD coming with the computer. And you can test further with AppleJack, just think to install Memtest that is optional (it's not in the standard install). As memory is a common issue on MacPros, it's a good idea to verify. Last thinking… try also to launch Logic without any plug-in, (just move them from their relevant Library folder). If Logic launches normally, add the first half of them, retry, if it's not fine, try with only the first half of the half… etc. If you have many plug-ins, it'll be faster to try with blocks of plug-ins and then check into these bundles if Logic crashes than slowly adding one by one. At least there's a few more things to check… You've got enough to play with tonight I think.
