The new stuff in Garageband 09 sounds good. the lessons feature sounded fun. until I clicked on the 'Lesson Store' and read - 'The Learn to Play feature requires an Intel-based Mac with a Dual-core processor or better' angry.gif
the new Mac isn't in the budget till next year.

Don't take it so hard. Between the forums specific to GB and 40 bucks spent on a book like "Garage Band Power" , you should do fine. Mostly it just takes a willingness to sit down in front of the computer, try to have some fun, and not get too discouraged if you aren't coming along as quickly as you would like to sometimes. This is complex stuff. People talk about how easy computer produced music is these days, and that is only true because there are so many resources available to get the information quickly. It still is hard work sometimes, and a computer won't write a catchy hook or a good song for you.

Umm... I think davemoser means the new feature in GB'09, "Lessons" for various instruments is only supported on an Intel Core Duo or faster processor. Which is a bummer. But, the app still has some cool features.

I feel ya, davemoser. I am likewise not in the buy a new Intel mac mode just yet.

Good luck with the GB projects anyway.

Cheers.

i've seen references to a workaround for ppc macs. you can run the lessons manually by opening from their location at;

/Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Learn To Play/

This is from a post here at macfixit.com

i'm not using GB'09, so i haven't tested it.

Sorry about the occasional lowercase caps. my left shift key is dead..

Thank you Paul.

The GB 5.0.1 update opened in Polish, after a bit of panic, I clicked on continue and changed the language to English. It worked.

The other problem was when the sample lesson opened, it turned on my iSight (for sound input), which was in front of the speakers, so I had instant feed back(loud hum) till I moved the iSight out of sight.

i really wanted to do Sting's Roxanne but I guess I'll have to wait for my new intel apple
