I am seeking guidance on hardware and software to do the following:

1. connect a G4 Mac (graphite @ 400Mhz) to a high-end
Organ approximately 9 Meters / 18 ft away.
2. Software to make music notation and print sheets of music.
3. Hardware and software must be Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X compatible.

So, I need to know what hardware is needed to make the physical connection and software to do music notation with the ability to print.

I have been searching the web for 2 hours and have not found enough information to do this confidently by myself.
Many Thanks!

Does the organ have MIDI in/out?
If it does you will need a USB MIDI interface with 1 in and 1 out and obviously drivers for OS 9 (probably OMS) and OS X, also either 2 long MIDI cables or 1 long USB cable.

Have a look at

The best software would probably be Sibelius. It works in OS 9 and OS X.
It is a dedicated notation program.

You could use Logic Platinum however it has many features you wouldn't need if you only want to print scores

Thank you for your replies!
The Organ has a Midi Interface.
The reason I gave the distance information is that the G4 has a USB 1.0 interface and I know that such an interface has troubles with long distances. maybe MIDI can support longer distances than USB? I do not know.
I plan to research the software and hardware you have suggested. With any luck I will report back to this forum with an entertaining short story that documents my success or failure in this endeavor.

Some people use Finale for scores. I did years ago and it was tedious for 20 instruments/voices (can't play keyboards well enough so did it by hand). Its probably been improved.
