Hi,before asking you somethin i wish to introduce myself on this nice forum
My name is Emanuele,25 Italy, marine engineer....and now the question for you
I am new on mac (i bought my first one two days ago),on my pc i was usually working with Cubase.
During installation process of logic pro 8 i chose to not install Logic audio contents because i suppose it's only a folder containing jampacks (i dont like to use loop samples).
Can you confirm that i was thinking smooth or in the Logic audio content package, some useful utility is included?
Thank you in advance.
Emanuele

Emanuele,

Welcome to MacMusic. Great resource and great community.

You are spot on. The audio content is the various jam packs and Apple loops. But, my understanding is that it also contains your software instruments that ship with Logic. While I can sort of understand the aversion to the loops, the software instruments are very useful even if you prefer not to use loops to build tracks and record all your tracks 'live'. The MIDI application of the SW instruments are worth the installation IMHO.

Again, welcome.

peace.

First of all i wish to thank you very much.
Mine it s not an aversion...only i have the sensation (using loops)i m not producing somethin original...i'd like to create loops using my samples and instruments for the specific purpose of my ideas rolleyes.gif ..maybe i am going wrong becaus in this way i give up a powerful tool for my productions!!
Thank you again.

Hi Emanuele,

I think that what deaconblue was saying is that there may be presets for the Logic instruments there too, such as the sampler (instrument sounds as opposed to loops) for example. I may be wrong but I think that this is the case.
I think you can later choose to install part of the content - e.g., perhaps the sampler presets but there may be an implication on Logic's ability to 'find' them - I think I read a thread about this previously.

I understand what you're saying about loops etc but as a tutor, I find that my students often benefit from perhaps starting with loops to get a feel, like 'scaffolding' which they can later replace with their own parts. However, you say you've been using Cubase so I guess you have got your own ways of working which is great.

Good luck and enjoy.

Hi Emanuele.

I have a very similar issue -so far I have installed 18gb worth of the package -in order to electic piano and hammond organ sounds in particular -and all the effects. But I have not decided about whether to install the "Jam Packs" -which take up about the same (high) amount of disc space. The decision is actually driving me a bit crazy! But so far I have resisted the jam packs.

I have tried to find reviews about the jam packs -but with no luck because all the reviews focus on the other aspects of the Logic package.

I would be more confident of loading them if I was sure I could delete them or at least move them to an external disc. I agree that it can be more creative not to rely on loops.

Wish I could be more helpful

Phil
