I need a sound card for my powermac G4 733mhz, running OS10.4.11. I'll be using a mini sport 2x4 interface. Please recommend the sound card that will work properly with this setup.
Thanks in advance

QUOTE (saptime @ Wed 12 Mar 2008, 11:32) I need a sound card for my powermac G4 733mhz, running OS10.4.11. I'll be using a mini sport 2x4 interface. Magic words: "24-bit/96kHz audio interface" There may be some "sound cards" and addon interface adapters that do better (24-bit/192kHz or better), but the price for these increases exponentially with bandwidth. Mini Sport or Midi Sport ?? I believe you mean Midi Sport 2x4 = a great little adapter. Match that up with the: M-Audio FireWire 410 ( http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/FireWire410-main.html ) or the: M-Audio FireWire Solo ( http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/FireWireSolo-main.html ) Personally I like all the M-Audio gadgets for FireWire, but on my home system I have the Echo Digital AudioFire 4 ( http://echoaudio.com/Products/FireWire/AudioFire4/index.php ) Any of the above does a wonderful job of capturing and reproducing quality audio in and out of just about any Apple Mac G4 or higher ... OS9 is OK, OSX is preferred. I have my 'Fire4 hooked to an old Mac Cube w/ OSX and occasionally connect to my iBook laptop. (Using your FireWire ports for bi-directional high resolution audio and your USB for MIDI is totally cool and should present no software conflicts, at least on playback.) (FYI: built in or plug in audio cards are all at a disadvantage = they have to filter the PC or Mac power supply noise from the audio output lines. External adapters generally over come this with self contained or additional power supplies and do a better job, usually, of filtering this switching noise.)
