Hi all.
Can anyone tell me the type of software most likely used on Aphex Twin's "Come to Daddy" from 1997? I'm curious to know what sequencer software and effects (FFT?) he used on the album. Especially "Bucephalus Bouncing Ball" which is amazing! I am having a hard time looking this stuff up online. Does anyone remember? Best Ingeborg Okkels |

You know, I don't really know that I have ever read an interview with Richard James where he went into a whole lot of detail regarding his softtware/sequencing systems or even his methods, particularly. It's that way with a whole lot of producers out there where the feeling is "why should I tell someone how to do something that has taken me years to figure out?". He seems more happy with talking about ideas and philosophy of music rather than the mechanics.

i have used RM-1X from yamaha and get some results similar if i phase and pitch up drums. you obvously need to write in 16th's or something and higher. Mr James also has like some very cool synths. also the rm-1x sequencer has one sample that Aphex has used (a bass sound ). b.b.b has post composition editing (reversed samples) yea im listening to the song right now. its pretty nice. beautifull and fun. thats what aphex has in his µsic: personality. ps. i actually saw him live in den haag and ill never forget that music.
at the middle of the song when theres this real trippy "breakout" segment he also like reversed samples + over a kind of ring mod or grain delay effect. if you have like live, you can try the grain delay its pretty trippy on top of real fast syncopated long sequences. copy paste friendly . odd time signatures are cool. in what time sig is b.b.b. 6/128? hehe. woa.. serious editing... serious composing |
