I have a 1.8 gHz iMac G5 with a PowerPC chip and 1 GB of RAM. I presently have Reason 3.0.4 on it. I bought the upgrade to Reason 4 a couple of weeks ago but have yet to install it.

But now Propellerheads have put up an announcement that "the performance of Reason 4 on PowerPC Macs is currently not where we'd like it to be."

Anyone on these boards installed Reason 4 on a PowerPC Mac and, if so, what has been your experience? I'd love to have the new features but not at a serious cost to performance. I primarily use Reason as a ReWire slave with Pro Tools LE and occasionally Logic Pro.

Thanks for any feedback.

New Upgrades can cause problems for working systems. Before you buy anything, see what (soundonsound.com) has to say about it...

"Public Enemy" said it best.... Don't Believe The Hype.

ah ha-ha-ha-ha-ha (( snarkily laugh )) . . . unsure.gif

We have the same machine. Keep 3.04. My update with propellerhead was a N I G H T M A R E (( albeit for differant reasons -- I had gotten a copy of Reason 3 from the propellerhead rep when I worked at a___e and went to update it only to find out that the NFR was NOT UPDATEABLE !! )) to the point I actually returned the update -- to guitar center-- and bought Kore Komplete instead -- which has now just changed over to Kore 2 -- and I am much more bueno impressed -- to say the least. I hate to do plugs -- but . . . damn, NI Kore2 Komplete is really, really amazing !!

I worked for "A _ _ _ _ Computer" (( Hmm, rhymes with "snapple" )) -- Update your RAM first, wait for the update -- not the apple update, but the Reason Update, steer clear of Leopard until you swicth to a macintel --and you should be fine. PS, you may not want to bother with the iLife update either until you get a faster machine -- the best programs on it you can't run with your current set up. (( iMovie or iDVD )).

Best of Luck !!

fishboisfo,

You are right about Kore Komplete. It is "Wickedly" great!

If I didn't already have all the "Stuff" currently being "Not Used" I would certainly purchase: Kore Komplete. In fact NI (Native Instruments) are one of the best "Software Companies" on the Planet...
