hey ya'll i got alot of songs on this akai DPS 16 that decided to go lame. when i turn it on i get a warning that says 1141: inquiry / identify command failed. Check the drive. ID: ATA ERROR=81005104
right next to the ID: (here) the ID number never stops. it blurs thru 1 2 3..... ATA and then starts over again. this is barley readable because of the speed in which it scolls thru. of course there is the sad & crying face of a little girl also on that screen also. The DPS has an OS of 1.11 does anyone make/ have software that would repair this disk? Am i forced to loose everything and reformat? (say it ain't so) Is there some kind of reset button i can hold down during start-up or something? If i bought a external drive and updated the OS would there even be a chance the drive would behave? I got alot of stuff i couldn't begin to replace. somebody, anybody, evertbody H E L P!!!

Hey, New guy here, but I saw the above post by charliemak and it piqued my interest because the "fellas" and me have the same exact problem with the exact piece of equipment. We have thirty two songs on this hard drive and we are REALLY interested in avenues to recover our music. Ya know what I mean? Would really appreciate any help. later...

Hey charliemak, The "fellas" got this wise crackin' idea about getting another ten gig internal hard drive off e-bay and take the disk out of our failed drive and put it into the newer one and see if we can recover our music. If they actually do this,, I'll come back here and post as to the results. My computer repair guy said so long as your unit is making a clicking noise that the data is still recoverable, SO LONG AS the hard drive will actually run. He knows of a way to slave it to his equipment and download the data off the drive. Otherwise you have to send or take it to some people who with some serious equipment will charge you anywhere from $2,000-$3,500 to recover the data. Anyway, will post more later. until... wow, if that works (and i can ingest the procedure) that would be terrific !!! i already took out the old hard drive and replaced it with the old 10 gig from my G4. i thought maybe if i could update the operating system from the 1.1 version that i currently have to the OS V3.02 some how that might work but would need to find/buy a 50 pin scsi drive to connect to the DPS and try to load the new system i would download from http://www.akaipro.com/archives.phpdon't know if you guys tried this yet. let me know if you have. if not then i'll pony up the cash and go on the hunt for the scsi and give it a try. late
