the micron is great- looks good, good sounds, pretty powerful, and easy to use. highly recommend it!
software- garageband is good, i use logic, live is good... macs come with garageband so you're halfway there already...there are lots of tutorials out there- just gotta look around for production tips and tricks and such...abelton live is a free demo download, fully working cept for saving...if you can program try max/msp or supercollider, too advanced for me tho ;}
good luck and have fun!

The Micron is with its big brother one of the best Virtual Analogue around. So it's a great synth if you want to dive into programing. Deep enough, good sounding and not too overcomplex to learn synthesis.

Plus, it's dirt cheap now smile.gif

Now I'd really urge you to try the keyboard as much as you can as it's rather standard synth keyboard, so not the weighted piano keyboard you may like better even with only 2 years of piano long ago. It really depends on how you feel about it.
