Looking For Pro Equipment For Film Scoring..., looking for equipment, recorder & editer Options

Hello, I was wondering what I should buy to score a film. I know that Logic just came out with a program for osx, which I want to but. Does anyone know the price for that? I wanted to know if Logic was efficient for scoring a film.

I also heard that I need to get a multi-track sound editor.
does anyone know of a good one for osx?

I value all of your opinions. I want something that is going to be optimal for scoring a film. I don't care as much about sounds as I care about versatiliy and something I can use to edit a professional piece of music.
I have Intuem right now, a very easy to use, simple program, but I want to upgrade to a professional program soon. Does Logic come with a multirack sound editor that would be proficient for scoring a film?

you got it right first time!
logic audio will do all you need except edit video, from your post i get the impression that editing video isn't something you need to do.
logic IS a multi-track sound editor, you may want to look at protools as an alternative, but it dosen't work in osx yet...
oh yeah, logic is about $750! but as smokey robinson said, you gotta shop around.

I thought it would be around 300-400, but $750 is a hefty load for a program... I could probably buy an 8-track external cd burner for that price! ummm... is there anything like logic but minus all the little features that make it so expensive? what I mean is, I care more about if it does the job that about the little idiocincreses and nuggets that go into getting the sound JUST right. I just want a reliable program that I can sequence with and that edits sound into video

if not, then maybe I should use os9, which i am not thrilled to use.
would the price be better than? I would recieve movie footage via a dvd-r, and I would go from there. would os9 be suitable for that???
i think Logic for os9 was more in my price range,

but I would love a program for osx the most.

sorry to scare you!
the problem is the fact that you need a program that will allow you to work with/sync to quicktime movies.
i'm not aware of another program that facilitates this under osx yet!
os9 is just fine for your needs, we all want to use "x" but the choice just isn't there at the moment.
the "little features..." that you talk about just happen to include quicktime movie support.
also, logic platinum (the top of the range) is the only version of logic currently available for x, but their budget solutions will obviously be available soon.
oh yeah, i just remembered bias' deck!?!

P.S. Is Bias deck a multi-track sequencer that I can play my Roland xp30 sounds into? It looks great from editing, but will it work fine with my keyboard and Midisport USB 2X2 interface? - jeff

it really ought to, it was originally 50% of the protools software "solution".
it was originally developed by metroworks, who have since become "the" code compiler solution "bar none" for mac.
it's obviously changed hands a fair bit in the meantime (bias is a company owned and developed by the berklee institute...), but does have a great pedigree!

Does logic take a long time to learn? It looks complicated, but I'll eventually figure it out...

Anyways, when Logic comes out for everyone ( do you know when ) i'll just pay for the freaking thing. No sense in hacking it.

You don't have to get Platinum, remember. The new version 5 of what was previously called Silver, now simply known as Logic Audio, is still plenty powerful. Also, if you act quickly, you can snap up the special Big Box release which also includes a sample player, sample CD, a vintage Rhodes piano and an analog-style synth for £200.

I don't know exactly what its film-scoring credentials are like - obviously Platinum is top of the Logic range for everything - but I wouldn't be surprised if it did a pretty good job. Check out the emagic web site - they have a Logic version feature comparison chart.

Although of course anything other than Platinum is not currently OS X compatible.
