Live Performance With Mac Book Options

Hello,

I would like somebody to inform me how can I set up an account in order to have the best performance of my Mac Book (1.83 Dual Core/ 512 RAM) while I will be using it for live performance. Are there any specific actions that I should take, using unix or other kind of program.
