I had been doing some research on what type of control
surface to add to my studio: I use a PowerMac G4 dual 867 processors 1.75MB of Ram Mac OSX.4.8 Tiger I use MOTU's Digital Performer 4.61 I have 2 UAD-1 PCI cards with a MOTU 828 mkII The product I decided to buy is Tascam's FW-1884. For the most part it drives DP's most commonly used features great, but it gets sticky when I try to use it with Plug-ins. I've gone over all the documentation. According to MOTU's tech, I should be running it in HUI emulation, that it's preferred. The FW-1884 manual says to run it in FW1884 Native mode. (I think this one does work the best.) And I tried the Mackie Emulation, still no luck driving my DAWs plugs or my UAD plugs. The problems I'm experiencing are the following: In using the Shuttle Wheel, when using the SHTL key, many parameters are skipped. The parameters it does snap to respond, in a word, "chopppy." Surely a piece of hardware this expensive can be configured to drive the stuff I want it to drive, right? And yes, I have the latest drivers and software. Joshua Favela Clear Image Studios |

Is there no firmware update for the tascam?
What do the guys at Tascam say? And the UAD ones? They should be the first involved after all, it's "their" thing. In case there's a procedure for it, have you tried to reset the Tascam? Is there something else connected on the firewire port the tascam is using? And have you tried with only one UAD-1… (oblique approach) -------------------- Our Classifeds • Nos petites annonces • Terms Of Service / Conditions d'Utilisation • Forum Rules / Règles des Forums • MacMusic.Org & SETI@Home

Of course I got TASCAM involved. They took all day trying to figure it out, I'm still waiting.
Why else would I be here? If anyone out there has some enlightening feedback, I'm all ears. J |

Hey, cool down!
I was asking questions you were not answering in your post at all and giving hints of thing to try if you have not already done so. We see questions here everyday of the year here, and it's usual for posters to left things that should have been told first hand, will you PLEASE answer to these? I don't have the answer, but I know ways to troubleshoot some stuff (not everything, as everyone here) but we won't progress if you yell when we try to help. If your problem was obvious, the tascam/motu guys would have give you the answer. So let's track the not so obvious, thanks. -------------------- Our Classifeds • Nos petites annonces • Terms Of Service / Conditions d'Utilisation • Forum Rules / Règles des Forums • MacMusic.Org & SETI@Home

All 'Ears' No Brain. Perhaps you should contact: 'The People Skills Forum'
"Of course I got TASCAM involved. They took all day trying to figure it out, I'm still waiting. Why else would I be here? If anyone out there has some enlightening feedback, I'm all ears." jfavela... You trash talked our "Leader". I know you're frustrated regarding your Technical Issue. Really, we ALL understand, been there. However, If this was the 'Real World' I'd have some 'Real Words'. No one likes a 'Dumb Ass' Smart Ass'. You can't come into 'Our House' talkin' trash... I thought your Reply/Remark was way 'Out Of Line'. I did not Reply because I was informed the Forum was not for communiques unrelated to Computer/Software/Hardware issues. This was an exception. |

I'd like to second that "cool down" motion. This is a forum where anyone can post their problems, concerns, questions and frustrations about making music on the Mac. Nobody charges anything for their advice, and I've gotten tons of it since I joined this forum. This is a great community and deep well of knowledge, and it pains me to see people take it for granted. We all need to realize that this forum is a privilege and that the people who give advice so freely here do not deserve to be whipping boys. It's never a good idea to pull a smart attitude on someone who is lending you their time and advice for free.
Practically, I've found that the more focused my questions are, the more likely they are to get answered. If I have several questions, I try to space them out and get them answered one at a time. HaHaWorld |
