Hi folks,
Just to mention i saw a demo of the forthcoming release 6 of Pro Tools under OS X. The stand knocked me out, with a specificaly designed white workspace with 2 huges 1600x1024 99999 inches monitors... :-) Sorry, i don't have acamera. Damned, Digi has muchos money, compared to AMS/Neve (or even SSL), who didn't even have a small stand... World is changing... But anyway, i focused on one & only thing, the OS X port: i must say i was quite impressed, even if the software hang at one moment or the other (hey, it was still beta). Worth the 3 years waiting, IMHO. I didn't try it personaly, but it felt like the OS 9 release 5.x. Not to mention i'm hardly waiting for the new DigiBase function, for many years now (similar to the "pool" from Nuendo, or the "soundbite window" from Digital Performer, or the "bin" from AudioVision (AVID), very usefull for sound editing for movie), but with more power. And there is also CoreMIDI support (ie MTS MIDI Time Stamping), the "project window", the "background task manager", the "workspace window", etc., etc. For one time, Digi seems to have understand the meaning of 5 through 6 release. I just hope the X LE version will soon follow the TDM one, and that the M-Box & AMIII (& Digi001 & 2) will be handled by CoreAUDIO... Probably a dream. And this is the big question, it seems Digi has developped a dedicated DAE for OS X, which has nothing to do with CoreAUDIO... Correct me if i'm wrong? Anyone, with more infos? I also hope MOTU will react ASAP. 2003 is going to be a great year. Bye. |
