I dont know what's the problem is.

I got a new Mac book pro and I bought a normal Logitech USB Optical Mouse. Using the Mouse on a plain black mouse pad. Tracking speed set to maximum.

the repsonse to fine movement is poor (e.g. it's slow in response in jobs as simple as working with the transport buttons in Ableton Live). got pissed off after 5 mins use. Anyone can suggest what's the problem is? Really dont know which part of the link has the problem. Tried the mouse on other surfaces: no help.
Is it the Mac? the Mouse or the USB?

I 've been using ball mouse with PS/2 for years in Windows. Although it is old-school but I find it works well for me...

have tried to find a USB ball mouse in 4-5 shops , all says they dont hv such a thing.

pls forgive my poor english..Hope someone can give me some light. thx!!!!

First thing, with optical mouses, use a textured support (it can be the wood on my desk for example) or a piece of paper. And see if it works.

Second, is it working with a dedicated driver or not? If so, have you restarted after repairing permissions (Apple disk utility in ~/applications/utilities).

It's strange as Logitech makes work usually without fuss…

thanks lepetitmartien

I had tried with paper but it doesnt help.

The package of the mouse said it doesnt need driver for mac...and there is no driver of this mouse available for Mac in the logitech website.

about the repairing permission, not sure what is it, would you mind explain a bit more. thx

I'm also using a Logitech optical mouse and it works magnificently (on a mouse pad)

Go to applications -> utilities -> disk utility , select your system drive and click on "repair permissions".

If this doesn't work, maybe it's some intel compatibility problem yet to be solved?

Intel compatibility may be the problem. Printers, scanners etc that worked fine with a PowerPC G4/G5 Mac may experience problems with Intel Macs. Why not return the Logitech mouse and get an Apple mouse instead, either the wireless one-button affair or the Mighty Mouse? I guarantee that they will both work with a MacBook Pro.
