Please have paitence with a newbie! i am new to macs, and not even a strong computer user to begin with. i am having difficulty understanding the graphics arrangement between macs and protools. from what i can gather, it is neccessary (or at least recommended?) to have an AGP system as opposed to PCI. now i want to purchase a newer mac and i am finding for example listings such as an ATI Radeon 9000 pro. how do i know if this is AGP or PCI? thanks for your input!

My old grey Masc G4-400MHz at work ( I dont use it much ) it must be some seven years old or so is one of the first AGP-equipped macs. (Advanced Graphics Port???) If your Mac is newer than that it has at least an AGP-port for the graphics. Newer Mac G5:s the one I bought just before x-mas - have PCI-X or PCI Express graphics slots. ( my G5 have the GeForce 6600 PCI Express card) ( PCI-X and PCI Express (PCIe) is not the same standard - confusing I know ) At this link you can find specs on just about any macintosh model you care to name: http://www.lowendmac.com/profiles.htmHere you can find specs for the ATI 9800 Pro: http://www.ati.com/products/radeon9800/rad...e/features.htmlIt's an AGP 4x card btw. Should work just fine with protools Cheers: Dixiechicken
