 Changing Input Channel Names |

I'm sure I've read before somewhere that it is possible to rename the input channels of your soundcard within Logic so that they have names other than input 1, input 2, etc. I can't for the life of me figure out how to do it in Logic though. What I want is to name the input channels so they make more sense within the studio environment that I have set up. For instance I keep a focusrite preamp wired into Input 5 and I would like it if in logic when I am choosing which input to record through it would show up as "Focusrite Pre" instead of "Input 5" in the input select drop down menu.
Have I just imagined this functionality or is it possible? I'm running Logic Pro 7.1 on an iMac G5 with a Motu 828 Mkii sound card. Thanks in advance for any help. It really will be appreciated. |

Depends on you soundcard's control panel, the utility that comes with the MOTU828 does it. so you should be good, there is a button that sez edit track names. I just loaded the new drivers yesterday.
I also have a M-Audio fastrack USB interface, doesn't need drivers, so there is no way to change channel names.

Hi thanks for the reply. I already changed the channel names in the motu preferences pain and the new names show up in the Firewire Cue Mix Console that comes with the soundcard, but the new channel names don't show up in Logic so I'm guessing there is something I'm not doing (probably within Logic).
Can you get custom channel names for your 828 to actually show up within Logic? Thanks again for your help.

good question, I know the feature is there but have never seen a need to use it.
Guess I have to do research, but my hunch is that the interface supplies the info, then the OS, and Logic interpets it.

you can change your input names from within Logic. Go to your audio configuration (Audio->Audio Configuration). Once you're in your audio config window, go to View->I/O Labels. Here you can choose to use the driver's I/O label or you can use a custom I/O label. FYI-the short label is what shows up on a channel strip input or output. Hope this helps.

That's great thanks for your help guys. I've now changed my i/o names and it makes routing signals a whole lot easier.
