another question from a mac newbie..... to run Protools, which would be considered more desirable: dual 1 gig processors, or something like a single 1.67? by the way, are there any issues with compatibility with the quicksilvers? seems every time i read more into the digidesign website there are more compatibility problems to look out for. thanks....!

I would go for the dual 1G quicksilver I think. The speed of the bus in the computer would also be important here.
(perhaps other persons here can give you better advice)

I dont use Pro Tools I use DP and have zero problems.
(of course my new G5 is a "double-kernel/core" cpu - in effect a dual G5)

Digital Performer at least is - and I would imagine Pro Tools as well - dualprocessor aware - and can
use two processors to divvy up processes threads and other tasks.
( I DO NOT ACTUALLY KNOW if Pro Tools has this capability check their website )

PT is multithreaded thus able to use more than one processor since PT 7 (from memory)

Only things to care about Quicksilver macs are:

- the noise, they are not the most discreet macs around, so don't have it near you.
- double boot, avoid it, switching between OS 9 and OS X will only end up in tears possibly. The way both systems handle drives is different, and it happens it conflicts
The compato page at Digi is a listing of the things they know will do work or don't work. The rest is untested.
