Hi, I just did a recording session at a studio that uses pro tools. I got all the audio files on an extrenal harddrive and I wanted to mix the music in Sonar on a PC, but when I dumped the files on my PC they show up as unknown files. How do i get my PC to be able to use these files so I can start mixing them in Sonar? Thanks for your help, I am clueless when it comes to Macs and pro tools.

I don't know if Sonar imports SD2 directly but first try adding the .SD2 extension to the audio files if they don't already have it.
Sometimes when you open SD2 on a PC you get just white noise instead of audio.
this is because the byte order of Mac (PowerPc) and PC (intel) files is reversed.

another thing you can do is download the free utillity called SD2Wav and convert to wav.

don't forget to add the file extension .sd2 to the files

Hi, I am having a problem converting .sd2f files with sdTwoWav. I have MacDrive installed on the system. sdTwoWav recognizes all the information thats in the sd2f files but when i convert them it says it is 0 bit rate and 0 sample rate and they won't play. I tried the Ignore Resource Forks option and then the converted file shows up at 705kbps Bit Rate and 44 sample rate, and it just sounds like static (white noise) when you try to play it. I am not sure what I am doing wrong. I tried adding the .sd2 ext at the end of the file name but it still does the same thing. Thanks for any help you can provide.

You might want to try using Viena (sp?) sound font editor.

If you know the bit depth and sample rate, you can open in Wavelab as RAW.
you have to specify the SR and Bit depth and if its Little Endian / Big Endian
(Motorola(mac) or intel) choose the motorola,..
Once 'open' in Wavelab, "Save As" Wav..
Man, Wavelab will open "Anything" even rocks, text files , jpegs.....

PS if you don't know the samplerate you better ask, otherwise you can open at a different speed and sound funky . . .

cheers

Thanks for the reply. This is good info to know. I finally broke down and drove back out to the studio and told them to give me a PC friendly copy of the sessions, so I just waiting to pick those up. I got sick of trying to get it to work when we already paid for their time. Thanks for the help everyone.
