I need a stable, budget sample library.
Anyone know any good ones that are cpu light (using 2005 powerbook), but have a good varied set of natural sounding instruments? I've been through sampletank hell and need my faith in virtual instruments restoring.. How's NI Kompakt, or indeed Kontakt? |

Kompakt is good for playing back basic sounds. But if you are interested in tweaking your sounds a little more and have filters and effects on it, maybe sometimes want to build your own instrument you should decide for Kontakt. BTW you get a 15 GB library with Kontakt.

Can anyone comment on how Kompakt compares to Halion Player? I have very little money. How do the sample libraries compare? Is one a bit more flexible than the other? CPU load?

Never used Halion but I do use kontact 1.5. My mac is not that powerfull and was very relieved that kontact had very low CPU usage. Even when it is running the maximum number of samples/instuments its still lower than any VSTi I have. But that does depend on how you make use of its modular structure. Can be a bit slow analising samples for beat+time machine though(not really a problem though).
