Here's the deal, folks. I haven't seriously played in years, but recently, I have received a lot of equipment after purchasing a PowerBook G4. Therefore, I decided to hook 'em all up.

Here's my basic setup:

PowerMac G4 512MB (I'm expanding to 1GB soon)
Edirol UM-1SX USB/MIDI interface
Roland D70
Logic Express 7.1

Now, I have to admit I've only been using Logic for a few days, but what happens in the tutorial is that I can spuriously get sound from my D70 (I've got it set up on handshake, if that term is still used) for a few minutes, and then nothing. Also, my patches don't show up true on the Mac. I've been carefully reading the manual (all 500+ pages) and I know I haven't reached what I need yet, but I want to know if anyone can tell me a shortcut to getting my D70 to play true on Logic.

In other words, the last computer I used with a synth was an Atari 1040ST, and I'm once again a babe in the woods.

Oh, also, here are my other synths I intend on incorporating in the future:

Sequential Circuits Prophet 600
Sequential Circuits Six Trak (Yeah, cheap, claptrap, but you can do some interesting analog sequencing with it)
Roland JX3P (love the string sounds, wish I had the PG200)
Yamaha DX7 (in some state of repair)
ARP Axxe (in the process of getting a CV-to-MIDI kit for it, though I just use it for percussive synth)

Any advice for a newbie who has too many damn vintage synths, please let me know your advice. I'm still learning Logic Express, and I'm sure I'll find out something, but any hints would be greatly appreciated.

I bow to your collective knowledge, as I don't know much.

Russell

On the install CD, in the extra's folder (I think) is an enviornment called various multis.

it contains several setups for midi hardware. then you shoud see your hardware.
