Hi everybody,

I am new to this forum. I just bought my first Mac ever....a dual G5, 2.7 Ghz, 2.5 GBRAM,and 20" monitor...
I have Logic Express 7 and MOTU 4.5 from a friend but Serial Box does not give me a valid reg.no. for DP4.5
Has anyone got smthg for it?

Questions:

1. What MIDI interface works best with Logic/DP 4.5 ? MOTU USB Express/or Emagic/Steinberg? (8x8)
2. What audio interface should I get? HD896? or RME Hammerfall? Are there cheaper ones as good?
3. What soft is there for sample editing (similar to SForge /Wavelab) in Mac OSX?
4. Do you think DP 4.5 is better for MIDI work than Logic ? I heard so...

Any comments would be much appreciated

Hey welcome to the site,

Congrates on the G5 2.7 making me jealous cause i only got my g5 2.5 6 months ago , any wayz thats technology for you.
Not to sure on the serial numbers mate can't help you out there cause i am pretty new to makes myself, but you should do a google for a serial crack proggrams ,

in Regards to your questions though !

1.+2 Midi interface all works with mac because of the core midi and core audio , thats why i am mac all the way, you just gotta know exactly how many ins/outs you want the motu interfaces have good reviews , I own a RME-audio HDSP9632 Does the Job well.
RMe is what i think one of the best, but firewire is looking to be better and better , it doesn't have the same signal flow as pci cards,
I would go a pci card because i know it works ,
But the HD 896 firewire is a good option if you don't want to go out and buy a seperate Mic pre amp -etc
with your audio interface again ( how many ins/outs/)
do you need 8/in and 8/out what are you recording , ?

If it were just like vocals a , bass player or guitar , basics i would go for the all in one solution / audio/midiinterface/control surface
Tascam have Fw1884 i think it was called its on the site

I use logic pro7 i think its pro but i also think dp4 is pro ,
i havn't used dp4 yet
what ever takes ya fancy there both pro , fuck cubase off lol MAc all the way !!!

You can sample edit in Logic

drop me a line if you want, be glad to help you out with some advice as last year i was were you are gettin the gadgets now i am learning them ,
Its worth the time studing it all its expensive this industry .

anywayz drop me a line and leave ya contacts if u need a hand and i will email u

cheers

I have a MOTU 828 MKII which does more than enough for my needs. If I could choose again I'd buy a Focusrite Saffire interface as the Pre-Amps are (probably) a lot better and I use mostly plug-in instruments and have no need for the 22 inputs the 828 provides me.

DP is supported well in the U.S. but over here in Europe we're more Logic orientated. The Logic 7.1 bundle is awsome and IMO cannot be beaten at the moment. From songwriting/mixing/mastering you are completely covered for a semi-pro audio basis. Those Pro-Tools guys will harp on about their better audio but those laurels they rest on are starting to singe a bit from the heat that Apple are turning on.

If you have a large set of outboard instruments then the 896 would be perfect for you. If you are a softsynth guy (Your computer is the most able in the World right now to do this) then save yourself a bit of money and keep the input count low, with a Mackie Spike or Focusrite Saffire.

Good Luck

Thanx everybody for the advice....
I am really obsessed with MOTU DP 4.5 but I could not make it work. The serial box gives me a couple of reg. nos. but they do not work

I heard that DP is good when it comes to MIDI editing options and it's used for 2 step, garage, and stuff where intricate rythms and tightness is primordial
I am thinking that DP should work well with MoTU midi Express USB interface
Don't know about Unitor 8. I am a MIDI programmer at my best...not used to deal with loops and plug-ins and soft synths

Anyway lots of tank you to everybody

Dannyboy did you steal this Mac?
If you like DP so much, why not buying it. sad.gif
It's much less expensive than LAP 7.

Don't you know you're breaking rules here?

No K, serials, cracks! it's final. angry.gif

On the tightness issue, DP and Logic are tight, on some configs Logic is tighter.

Tighter is logic with a serial midi interface used with a serial adapter. Next with an emagic USB interface.

Note that this uses dead products… sad.gif

MOTU just updated its USB driver, it's supposed to make things tighter too, but I'm still waiting for news about it.

Hi,
Merci beaucoup Lepetitmartien.

So, for me to get the tightest midi possible I should use a serial midi interface (do you mean USB???)
I do use a G5 2.7 Ghz with firewire and usb ports

What midi interface works best with Cubase? They have a steinberg midi interface too
I am confused because it sems that Logic has its own midi interfaces
MOTU doeas DP + its own interface
Cubase + its own midi interface

Can you use them interchangeably?
Does this affect midi timing?

Sorrry for nagging a lot about MDI....

Cheers,

Dan
