Posted: Tue May 31, 2005 11:10 am Post subject: i paid 2000 for rubbish!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have had numerous problems with my new powerbook 12inch....

Live freezes, cubase freezes...could this be a result of my firewire 410??? I've sent it to apple to do a hardware test - as far as they are concerned it is working fine, it's just when i run my music apps. They also hit me with 66 bucks because the didn't find anything wrong with it.

I got it back today and it has frozen three times. Once using live once using cubase and then once when i went to shut the machine down - just freezes. I have the appropriate driver for my firewire 410. Do you think my software is corrupt???? Can Macs become currupt if you download sit files from your pc and put them on your mac eg, i did that with the demo of live (couldn't use my install disk because the stupid machine wouldn't read the disk), the firewire driver, plugins also downloaded on pc and then put on mac

Anybody, please help...i am so drained........wuz running everything on my old ibook fine....wish i'd kept it, i have a friggin gig next week too.

i would say it's not the fault of your mac....... but i dunno

if you think it's your sound card, try running your apps without it (sound out on the internal speakers or the mini-jack) - and of course unplug everything else you have plugged in - printer, hd etc etc

do the same with, say garage band & compare to live - if gb works and live crashes, it's a live problem

during thosse test, of course do not use 3rd party plug-ins - and quit all unused apps

hope it helps

1- Empty P-Ram ( 3 or 4 times )
2- Repair disk permissions
3- Index volume

Never use the 410 in a FW chain.

Sinc you have another mac.
Plug your iBook as a FW target with your PBook
(Restart the iBook holding T) and take the Live App from
the iBook. ( Don't forget to eject the iBook HD from your PBook before quiting)

For your live gigs with Live.
In Live's pref.
-In the audio page, if you don't need the
"Input audio Device" turn it off.
-In the Midi/Sync page, uncheck what you dont use.
-in the plug-in page, turn everything off.
-Empty P-Ram :-)

I've had problems with Live 4.1.2 and God or Jesus (i don't remeber) told me to always use Live 4.0.4 for live gigs. blink.gif

check your disks - "fsck -y -f" in single user boot, techtool, diskwarrior, etc. Try reinstalling the system. Try resetting PRAM, repairing permissions. uh.. not necessarily in that order blink.gif sorry you've had these problems.
