Which Audio Recording Program?, how save internet streaming? Options

Hi Mac Music Experts,

I would like to save/record internet streaming programs, such as Prarie Home Companion or Car Talk

I can listen to them online, using RealPlayer. I'd like to be able to save them to disk/file, in MP3 or aiff

What program can I use to save a talk show that I'm listening to?

I've tried Sound Sculptor and Coaster. The only way they offer to do this, is to connect a cable between your audio output jack and the mic input jack. I don't like this choice.

Programs such as JetAudio can do this on Windows. It even gives me choices of quality/format, otherwise, the first time I tried it, I ended up with 800 meg file for a one hour recording.

What I want to do it listen to Prarie Home Companion in my car, while driving, when I want to listen to it. I don't want to sit in front of my computer and do nothing else for 2 hours while listening. My solution would be to let my low-end Powerbook sit in a corner and play and record the show, then I will play it back later in my car.

I'm using OS 9 on a Powerbook, if that matters. I'd like to do this with a low-cost shareware program. I'm using iTunes 2 for playback.

Question 2: Do you know of a shareware Balance Control program? I'm plugging my Mac into a amp that does not have balance and one speaker is farther away than the other, so I need balance to hear both speakers.

You can use Audion to record streaming programs.
It's a great freeware.

Question 1 Audio Hijack by Rogue Amoeba is good for recording anything that plays through your mac. The basic version is free, but has a limit of about 10 minutes max recording. But then the Pro version is pretty cheap. This may be worth a look. I think there is a link in the MAC Music software section.

Not sure about Qusetion 2 though.

Try RadioLover. Works like TIVO. It's awesome! I record Morning Sounds Eclectic from KCRW everyday for 3 hours. Makes each radio show into indivdual mp3 to listen in iTunes or on your iPod. Works like TIVO.

Thanks to the 4 people who responded to my request about recording internet streaming programs. I apprecriate people taking the time to think about it and give a response.

Here's my update. I've looked at all 4 programs suggested. Three of them are only for Mac OS X, so I can't use them.

Unless... Does anyone have an older version of:
RadioLover or
Audio Hijack or
WireTap

I'd like to get an older version that works with OS9, if such a program exists. If you have a version that works with OS 9, could I ask you to email me the program? The versions on this site and on their web site only works with OS X

I was able to download the other program: Audion, and tried it, but I had two problems:
First, when I did Open Stream, and typed in a Streaming URL, it showed text for that site for about one second, then stopped. It does not play the audio. It does work with their pre-entered site. However, it says there is no longer any support for this program.
Second, when I tried listening in Real Player, and tried to record with Audion, When I chose "Record," it would freeze my computer, no buttons would work, so I had to reboot.

Could anyone help with either a previous version of the suggested programs, or recommend another program that lets me record streaming audio, using OS 9?

I have a Powerbook 3400c, 80 Meg RAM, OS 9.
