i think once the new Tiger comes out i'll upgrade my G4 867 (sp) to a G5, probably, by that time the dual 2.0 will be the low-end (for the duals). My current set-up consists of the old Echo Mia (not miamidi, not PCI-X) & a Mackie 1402 analogue mixer. I don't need all the channels with my mixer, I really just bought cause it was a great deal (since i record solo, i only really need one or two inputs at a time).

So... Echo will trade me the new EchoMiaMidi for my card + $100USD... in your opinion, would it be worth it to try and sell my Mackie & Mia & put the $$ towards a firewire, or go ahead witht the upgrade... or get the dual 1.8 (reg PCI slots)????

not a big dilemma by any means, but would appreciate some input nonetheless...

thanks,
d

Drop the "old" PCI, it's "dead". PCI-x is the future for the next years so don't compromise. Now Does the FW interface has anything to call on you more than the PCI card? If yes or no…

Beside this having a set up which can avoid an unnecessary mixer would be great.

Have you thoroughly checked all the options in PCI (and you sell your current Echo and the mixer)?

Also, in FW which interface would you be looking after?

the way i see it - the less hardware the better, so i'd be more inclined to get a firewire rather than having a mixer & a pci card.

i've been looking at the echo firewire "audiofire 8" or the edirol 66... i think the edirol would be better for me cause it has rca plug ins (for my dj mixer) plus enough inputs for a guitar/bass/mic... like i said, since i'm on my own i just need one at a time..

as far as selling my gear... i'm not too worried about the echo since afterall, it is almost 3 years old, and like i said, i got the mixer for cheap, so i can sell it for cheap too..

anyone with firewire advice?

I have the RME fireface 800 and the sound quality, flexiblity, and driver set can not be beat for the price. The Converters are amazing and the drivers are ultra low latency. I couldnt be happier with it.
