I think aif's and wav's take up more memory on a data CD - does this mean they are being compressed or losing something when made into audio CD's?
Strange things I've never known...
thanks in advance

nope. Audio CDs are puuure streaming digital audio, sample for sample.

But they will take up a tiny bit less space - no data file meta-data, no icons, no operating system .DSstore files, etc. etc.

Correct me if I am wrong

It depends on the bit rate actually.

CD's will always be 16 bit files

Aiffs and Wavs can be anything from 8 bit upwards (the higher the bigger) logic normally records in 24 bit for example.

So - yeah - sometimes files on CD will be smaller ...

But only so's your dog could hear.
