Hi,

Im helping my brother out. he is a musician, and wants to by an eMac (g4/700), but he is otherwise computer iliterate. Unfortunately, I dont know the first thing about making music on a mac.
What Id like help with is, if an eMac, Cubase and a Yamaha cs1x are a viable solution, and what would be required to make it work.

Thanx

Jas

You will need a Firewire, or USB audio interface, and sequencing software.

Most of the major apps are not ready for OSX, should change by the end of summer.

They all work fine under OS9 currently, check out the demos for Logic, Cubase, and Digital Performer3

Thanx a bunch!

Any ideas on where to browse for an audio interface?

the answer to this question really depends on the budget !
most people would probably agree that you should start with motu though.
a further thought here is that you should maybe decide which sequencer you're 'gonna use first. smile.gif
loads of choice out there though. start reading the associated magazines and related websites wink.gif

Just want to say, the eMac is NOISY.
Some of my setup is an eMac w/640MB RAM, DP3 and a SC-D70 as an USB audio interface, MIDI interface and sound module.
I'm happy with it, exept for the noise. I've solved it by making hole in wall and placed a 19" monitor in the next room and using the video mirroring. I added a extra keyboard and mouse so I can use the computer from the "silent studio" or my bedroom.
