I'm on a g4, 350MHz, and running cubase 5.0. I'm having a problem with the computer lagging- cutting in and out. This happens when I start adding more trackes (up to 12 or so) and if I put any real time dynamic processing on them. (Even 4 or 5.) Of course reverb does the same thing, and that's a problem too, come final mix time. What I'm wondering is, how do I solve it, (without having to get a new computer?) Do I need more processing power? Do you know PRICES or DEALERS??

You can not use heavy processiong plug-ins and expect their efect no to be cumulative. Good plug-ins are using power, and things like a reverb even more.
You can lessen the load by freezing the effected track, but if you're doing every thing live, it'll be problem. First have you enough RAM ? Second think about a more powerfull computer, one solution can be a processor upgrade (see the xlr8yourmac site). I'm myself (not for long…) on a BW G3 400, and I count the time before my next computer (SOON) -------------------- Our Classifeds • Nos petites annonces • Terms Of Service / Conditions d'Utilisation • Forum Rules / Règles des Forums • MacMusic.Org & SETI@Home

You have to realize your computer have limited resources and use those to the max.
Our first project was written on a powermac 7300 with a G3 upgrade card, so I know this is possible. Of course, I used loads of outboard gear and an external desk with it... If you know that every instrument or processor takes CPU , you simply need to take that into account and think as you write/mix. I used to bounce down several track to stereo (i.e 8 backing vocals, guitar tracks etc..) good luck Danny -------------------- Recording engineer and producer... thanks for you replies. i understand the issue, however I was hoping there was a way around it, that was only somthing like 200 bucks for a better proccesser... Outboard dynamic processers are a lot more exprencive that that though. Too Bad. Thanks guys!
