I am one of those few people out there who seem to suffer from O.C.D (Obsesive Compulsive Dissorder)when it comes to my computer system. My biggest and only pet peve dealing with OSX Panther is everytime I open a new folder, the window's always open with that new side bar open as a default. Though I can see the use in it,,, I don't ever really use it and find myself constantly tucking it away, with every new folder I open. wink.gif

If you create a new folder on your desk top and open it, you'll see that Apple have defaulted the window to open in the middle of the desktop a certain size and position, in Icon veiw, and with the sidebar open. I prefer all my windows to begin a certain size and certain placing along the middle of my desktop, using List veiw, sanz the Side bar. Thats all I ask.

How can I hack into Finder to make every new folder window open according to my personally choosen defualt, so I dont' have to set up each window manually? Know what I mean?

The "All Windows" option in Finder veiw pref's dosn't seem to be doing this for me so there must be a Hack. Is this possible?

Thanks In advance.

As far as I've seen it has to be set manually for each concerned window. But if you shut the sidebar it should be shot next time you open another one. I just tried, it works…

Now, I think you are using OS X Finder as if it is OS 9's. It's NOT.

If you correctly populate the side bar, you can almost do everything into one window, with the columns view on. Myself I use at most 2 windows to move files around. (heavy moving, else I do with on only).

Also the upper right button of the windows can be your friend wink.gif as proper use of finder preferences (file menu)

I may be wrong, but I've seen quite a few people wasting time to reproduce habits taken and valuable in OS 9 into OS X and crawling, while the navigation solution is easy.

Now if you have some ODC wink.gif A UNIX driven system is paradise on earth! laugh.gif And the sidebar is your friend cool.gif
