that's exactly what i hear when i boot my g4.

i just bought new ram off ebay from ramdirect. the seller had 100% positive feedback and almost 10 000 sales, so i figured it'd be alright. when i google searched my problem (pairs of beeps at start up) i found that it could be a RAM issue. however, i've had my RAM installed for almost a week now and everything has been fine until now. nothing else seems to be wrong except that i get the beeps.

any suggestions?

powermac g4 quicksilver (single processor) 867mhz
panther
1gig ram (2oldx256 & 1newX512)

thanks, again
d.

I'm not a RAM expert, but the easiest thing to do is to remove the new RAM and see if the beeps go away. It's possible the RAM is faulty.
Good luck.

hey...

yea, i took the ram out and it still beeps... but one of my three hardrives is not showing up. this happened before (without the beeps) and it ended up being a tear in my bus cable... i'm gonna have to investigate this a bit further...

Unplug everything with a plug inside the mac and plug it back.

Check for dust into slots (bit of dry air…)

Reset the motherboard if it's possible (unplug from mains, open, touch the metal, remove the lithium battery, press the tiny tiny button near it for 20 seconds, put the battery back, close, replug to main, boot) in case it's something wrong on the soft side (but usually beeps means hardare trouble)

test your RAM if you can boot in OS9 (use gauge pro (free) or techtools)

Run the hardware tests from techtools anyway.

If all this doesn't work (outside RAM) you've got something bad happening somewhere.

hey...

thanks for all your help. everything seems to be working fine after i pushed the 'reset' button. i took out the 3rd drive that wasn't being recognized and i replaced it with another drive that only has os9 on it. it worked fine except for the fact that my other two drives weren't showing up. once i switched back to my original 3 drives (no os9) it was all good again. this isn't a problem since i haven't used os9 in months, but i don't really know what's wrong. at least the beeps are gone and i have what i need.

thanks again
d
