I believe that GarageBand requires at least a G4 and 256mb RAM. It's quite a resource hog. So you may be out of luck...

My brother is running GB on a 700mhz G3 ibook. it worked with 128 megs of ram (barely) and works pretty well with another 256 in there. Not going to do anything huge. But you can play around with the GB goodness.

Why wouldn't I be able to just stick a 1 ghz G4 Emac motherboard, processor and power supply into my iMac 500 MHZ Indigo? Weren't the Imacs upgradeable? If so how upgradeable are they?
Thanks |

Oh sorry I don't know about that kind of upgrade.
But if you ask me (and you didn't -- or did you, by posting? I dunno), when you're replacing the motherboard, the chip, and the power supply (and presumably the RAM as well)... you might as well just buy a new computer! The integration will be much better. If you can't afford that now, it might be worth saving up for that, rather than upgrading now, just to have to upgrade your Frankenstein again next year when you need something else... -------------------- iMac G4 1.25ghz 512, iBook G3 600mhz 384, Logic Pro 6, Live 3, Edirol PCR-50.

Does anybody know the difference between a G3 and G4 processor when the MHZ are the same. Is it the cache size like pentium vs celeron?
What is the most upgradeable Mac out of Imac, Emac, and Power Mac. I'm trying to put a Mac based recording studio together with a minimum of 10 track simultaneous recording capability. I am completely new to Macs and Computer recording. My budget unfortunately is 800.00 dollars with a cap of 900.00 and not a penny more. Is this even feasible? Does anybody have a solution that would work for me? I welcome any suggestions. Please help Thanks, Clint Simester |

The G4 has the Altivec instruction set, G3's do not.
Altivec speeds up multimedia processing, most audio apps are altivec optimized. It will run on a G3 but not well, it even comes with lighter load G3 demo songs. Ce message a été modifié par gdoubleyou - lun. 28 juin 2004, 18:22. -------------------- G-Dub
