I think I bit off more than I can chew. Powerbook G4, Logic 6, M-Audio Quattro and atm running off an M1 as controller/basic sounds. I got Logic on good recommendation, and sick of PCs crashing and misbehaving, got the Mac too. So I'm learning both Mac and Logic, but I just keep going round in circles! I don't want to give in, I want to make music (vox, guitar, programmed stuff) and collaborate with other Logic users.

Help! Is there an idiot's guide to Logic that tells me how to record my own songs, not use the poxy demo songs (I tried anyway and it didn't work!). A friend took me through it but nothing seemed to stick!

Grateful for any help!

I went round in circles trying to learn Logic 6. The factory manuals were indecipherable. I found a book that got me over the hump and I highly recommend it. It is "Logic 6, Professional Music Creation and Audio Production" by Martin Sitter and Robert Brock.

You can get it at Amazon.com

Best of luck.

Garage Band is fun, but you really need to learn to use Logic. Once you learn it, you'll never go hungry again, as God is my witness.

You haven't bitten off more than you can chew, terrywil! dasasoul was totally right when he said, "find someone to show you how to work Logic." You have to do that, because the people at emagic are still mad at us because of WWII, so they punish us by writing indecipherable manuals. I had a friend show me how to use Logic, and I swear I was up and running in a couple of hours. No lie! You really need a friend to just sit there and say, "Plug this in here. Now click this. Now click that. Now do that." And you'll be flyin' high in no time flat! If you don't have any friends who know how to use Logic, by all means go meet some at your local studios! We're all over the place.

Don't be discouraged. Logic is the greatest thing since sliced bread. You'll be making your music before you know it!

Good luck, my friend!

Thanks for the advice everyone! I did have someone show me stuff for a couple of hours but when he left I went back to it and it all looked totally different! He was frustrated tho because he uses Logic Pro and I think I have the home studio version, and there are a couple of things missing.

I've ordered that book from the US so hopefully I should be up and running soon!

Cheers

Hey dont be discouraged. Logic does have a big learning curve but once you pass the hump, the rest is easy. I learned a lot by reading ComputerMusic mag. Go to their website www.computermusic.co.uk and youll find a lot of usefull tutorials. The factory manuals are just to let you know what each function does, but does not explain on how to use it in real world situations.

I learned my lesson with Cubase VST - if you're going to buy a sophisticated piece of music equipment...buy it from someone who can give you the support you need to get it running and explain how to get your own type of work flow happening on it. I quit using Cubase for that very reason and bought DP4 from Sweetwater in Indiana. I could never have got it going without the support I got from the Sweetwater folks.
