Yo i have a 1.25 gHz imac with 256 ddr sdram - ive been recording using the iMic to plug in my gutar and my mates digital drum kit for a while now but the quality is just terrible to be honest - whats the next step up - i know i need an interface to plug stuff into the computer but i can cope with only one input as we have no intention to record our stuff all at once - we all guna do our bits over the drum track one at a time - im on a budget and have noidea where to look - any help??

you would be most likely in the need of a tascam us-122. works great with panther. (get the driver from there site).

i use it with logic audio. i haven't had a bit of trouble from it.

happy recording,

I have an Mbox with my Panther running, PowerBook Ti G4 867Mhz. It was working great for the longest time, but ever since I added a USB 2 cardbus adapter I have had trouble with feedback(??) I have a post elsewhere looking for help on this issue.
That aside, the Mbox is an affordable solution for high-quality digital recording. It comes with a great software bundle including ProTool LE 6.4, and special versions of Amplitube, Live, Reason, T-Racks, SampleTank and some great plugins. Check the.Digidesign website for more info.

Another option that is practically free is to use Garageband. It comes with iLife '04 and can be had for less than $50. It is NOT a pro app,, but it makes recording simple, comes with tons of free loops and samples, works with a buncha gear (including the Mbox) especially USB keyboard controllers (I have the Edirol PCR-30) and it is a great place to start learning how to record with your mac.

All these solutions should run nicely on your gear.
Happy recording!

I found the Edirol AU-700 to be bang on for me. I had to get rid of my 828 cause of money difficulties but i have to say, the edirol wasn't a great dissapointment AT ALL! Some of the compression is dodgy and a little edgy for me but stick a VC3Q or FATMAN into the mix and you'll be laughing! Works a treat with ALL of the pro apps. I use cubase and DP4.
