M-Audio Transit

Hi, I am considering this interface as a cheaper alternative to something like the tascam us-122 which is a bit too expensive at the moment.

I think i can manage with the limited functions it offers, all i need now is some confirmation that it'll run fairly stable...

anyone tried this interface before? I think I'm going to get logic express 6 at some later point in time, do you think this will work with that too?

Thanks for any help!

Well, I own an M-audio SONICA usb, which looks a lot like the transit except it doesn't have any input possibilities.
And I can testify that it sounds great. I mainly use it for recording digitally onto my minidisc player and to listen to music on my mac, but at 96Khz and 24bit - you can tell the difference!
But if you were considering the tascam us-122, the transit seems a bit simple & limited!
Here's a good tip: Go to m-audio.com and just download the driver for the transit, it'll give you an idea of what options it has! (in 'system preferences')

Well, i haven't actually got the ibook yet, (although i wired the money to apple like 2 1/2 weeks ago!!! angry.gif ), but when i do i'll give your suggestion a try, thanks for the tip!

I was considering the us-122, but only because it seemed the only other "good quality" alternative in my price range.

My band colleague got something like the griffin imic (hercules muse sound device for pc) which i was also considering, but it sounds quite crap...possibly due to the low bit rate?

Not too sure on that matter, but if you say the other m-audio device sounsd good, maybe this is the way to go!

Plus i like the fact that it has good outputs as well!

i second renderingtodeath's opinion.

the m-audio transit has been one of my worst computer related purchases ever.

tech support terrible. kernel panics. this six month after introduction of panther. don't trust these lying crooks.

not only will you waste your money, but you will waste your time too.

OK, I must admit, I also had hell of a time getting the pref settings to stay the same. It would allways return to defaults.
But eventually I first installed the driver on the original CD, and THEN upgraded it with the online most recent driver and now it works excellent.

AND CONCERNING those kernel panics - this only means that your system was corrupted in the first place.

I hope you are talking about sys 10.3.3 'cause the others are just too shabby.

I actually like M-audio & evolution gear. I'm saving up for the delta rio blablabla audio pci card (the cheapest one) because i'm always looking to improve my sound system.

and BTW: It isn't a retarded 5.1 or other "surround" sound system, but a solid Marantz with JBL Stereo system.
Stereo is enough - one has but two ears, aren't I right?

thanks rendering to death. i've installed the m-audio transit on all kinds of 10.3 (.1, .2, .3) iterations clean and not and had the same trouble you've had.

this hbjr sounds like he's really out to lunch.

hopefully the general nonsense tone of his postings will be taken into account by people considering buying an m-audio interface.

Ok, has there been any improvement with the transit? I saw on m-audios germand website that the drivers were updated on the 24th of april, does this mean the problems have been solved?

price-wise this really would fit the bill with me at the moment, i really can't justify spending more as i also need to buy ram...

Multichannel is interesting for movies, but when it comes to music, it is really annoying to hear it in multichannel and not as a defined audio source.
This goes for both dance and instrumental music.
with music, you have to concentrate on one sound source, and with movies, you might want to have surround to create a certain ambience.

ALL musicians and djs will agree.

and I experienced it allready. both bose and Bang & Olufsen systems, and they really can't get the sound right for music.
