I love Macs!!

But, that ever so friendly software update that checks for the latest (improved) system software can be a pain in the B-TT!

I always check that any new download updates are going to be supported by any Apps software, but this week I fell foul of my own rule and updated my OS 10.3.2 to 10.3.3!

I read through what the update was going to change etc and it looked like a safe bet, Man!! was I so wrong. Although all of my Graphics software works fine my beloved Pro Tools LE V 6.4, no longer works!!! and are Digi hot on their heals to fix it? ... what do you think?

Over a week later ... still no news from Digidesign and no work happening in my studio!!

Any help to fix this issue would be appreciated and if I get that fix from Digi in the meantime I'll post a reply to help any other unfortunate that finds themselves staring at a Force Quit icon!! wondering how your gonna bounce your latest masterpiece down!!

So beware of the dreaded software update, and check that it will, work first!!

I've been using Mac OS 10.3.3 and Pro Tools LE 6.4 since they became available. No problems whatsoever.

OK guys, fixed the problem, thanks to my pal Kurt - you rock mate biggrin.gif

The Fix: restart using OSX 10.3 start up CD (installer 1), ignore intaller, go to file menu and open Disk utility.
Select main hard drive (Fujitsu ...), and run 'Repair Disk Permissions, when finished run the same again over hard drive name (your user disk)
Once all disk permissions have been repaired restart and hey, what do you know, Pro Tools has come back to me biggrin.gif

this procedure should be performed after any system update - top tip.

I'm happy once again.

You should not repair permissions by booting from the installer CD. Just open up DiskUtility (found in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder), select your hard drive, and click on the repair permissions button on the lower left.

The reason for doing it this way, is that DiskUtility uses the files in the library/receipts folder to determine what software you have installed.

Thanks David, much appreciated, been doing that since last software update. Now running 10.3.4 and Pro Tools is doing fine, just have to re-format my drive now without journalled being selected.

Any easy tips on how I do that without losing all of the prefs etc, it's a daunting task re-installing everything. Used to be so easy in OS9.
