I've been reading these posts fro soem tiem now and finally am ready to get into some real recording with my Mac. I have a Tascam 424 recorder, and am about to purchase the tascam US-122. II play in a working band and what I am trying to accomplish is to take our analog 4-track tape, remaster it in the Mac and burn it off on CD. I'm usign a dual G4 (1gig) and running OS10.2.8. The US-122 is bundled with Cubasis and something else. I do mnot plan to add alot of extra stuff to the original tape as this will be used mostly for sales demo purposes. What I want to know is "Am I on the rigth track here?" Guess I want a little assurance before I spend the money for the US-122.

Thnx,

I think it's worth it to save up and buy a Firewire interface instead of USB. Trust me, you'll be happy.

I just got the US-122. The installation guide notes that "Cubasis Mac version is not supported under Mac OSX." angry.gif

You might consider a more full blown interface/software for the mac.. The tape 4 tracks can sound pretty good, I used to do tons of them, but when you record that first new (not from cassette transfer) track on the dual G4 directly the tascam 424 will be up on ebay in about 2 minutes. There is no comparison. Also I'm not sure you can record 4 tracks at once, probably only 2, with the US122. That means to have control over the 4 cassette track individually in Cubasis you'll have to first record them in 2 at a time and then manually try to slide them back or forth in time to sync them up. Doable, but a pain. Does cubasis even work in OS x? Check it out. I know Cubase for os9 will not work in classic mode. You need to have an OS 9 bootable mac. The configuration you describe is like taking a Harley Davidson (the dual processer g4 mac) and putting barbie handlebar basket (cubasis and the Us122) on it to take some stuff around town. Invest a few hundred into better software and you'll have a full blown professional quality studio.
Good luck
