I just opened and installed M-Audio's Audiophile USB onto my G5, which is running 10.3.2 I diligently followed the instructions provided in the box and even checked m-audio's website to ensure I was installing the most recent driver (which I am, 1.5.7f1). Everything seemed to be going smoothly until I tried turning everything on use the damn thing.
Here is a list of some of the problems I am encountering:
1. My studio monitors (event tr5's) play a loud hissing distortion noise when turned on. I tried a series of connecting and powering everything on and off in several different variables to no avail. I did discover however that the hissing noise i'm hearing is the amplification of the noises my G5 makes when it's up and running. The problem seems to stem from the usb cable (the one provided by m-audio) that connects the audiophile to the back of my G5. The sounds persists regardless of whether or not the audiophile is powered on or off. The only way to get rid of the noise is to unplug the usb cable from the audiophile. However this means I can't play anything from my computer through to the monitors, which was a big reason for getting the audiophile in the first place. argh.
2. Recording anything that comes through the audiophile onto the computer in either 10.3.2 (using soundtrack 1.2) or in classic mode (using soundedit 16) is inaudibly low and fuzzy sounding and therefore useless. I seem to have hardly any input control and that which i do in soundtrack seems to not make much of a difference. this doesn't make much sense to me. argh again.
3. Playing audio out from from the G5 via the audiophile through to the monitors is no problem in 10.3.2. However in classic mode it seems that any and all files and applications won't play properly. In fact when I try to play anything I've made in Soundedit 16 a window pops up saying "could not complete your request because there is not enought memory." However if I power the audiophile off it plays perfectly normal, except only through the internal speaker on the G5. Thus anything I make in Soundedit 16 in classic 9.2.2 is unable to be heard on my monitors. This is the other main reason why I bought the audiophile. I realise soundedit 16 is an old, outdated ghetto program but it's worked for me for over 7 years on all OS platforms. It is huge disappoint that the music I make cannot be played through or heard on my monitors. argh argh argh!!

tech support is closed for the weekend. I desperately hoping someone out there can help or has experience similar problems and can point me in the direction of a solution for these problems. I see others have had varous problems on here before with the audiophile usb, i'm hoping my problems are fixable by some of your knowledge.

ps. I also went to m-audio's website and downloaded the drivers for 9.2.2, hoping this would at least remedy my ability to hear audio through my monitors when being played from classic. this hasn't helped either. I dunno...maybe it's making it worse?

PLEASE HELP!!! THANK YOU!!!

We've been having similar problems with Audiophile USB, which I'm trying to hook up to my son's G3 laptop using Garage Band. At this point, we can hear previously recorded tracks through the Audiophile, but we get no input at all. I have a bunch of questions out to different sources, and will relay anything that might be of help.

Did you go to your Audio/Midi prefrences in the utilities folder and enable play through? That might be what you need to do.
