I'm using M-box PT 6.2 with a 17" i-Mac G4.....
Been using ProTools since 1992 at my studio, but just got the M-Box several months ago.

All has been going well until I got a message that said: "There are some incomlete tasks, quit anyway" I always click 'no' and the warning and window disappear and I was fine.

Yesterday I got a window I'd never seen that said, "You need to restart your computer right now" so I did.

Now PT 'quits unespectedly' every time I try to open a new session or an existing one.

Any thoughts before I begin chasing down this wild goose?

Thanks in advance!!

It sounds like you need to do some maintance on your computer, run a disk utility, fix permissions, zap you pram, ect. If this keeps happening you may have a corupted program and will need to reload it. If Protools is the only program effected it could be it. Repairing permissions may just fix your problem. I do not use mbox but have read it has a few bugs like this, this could be the reason you are getting unresolved tasks also.

Thanks for the replies....

Yes, the screen did go grey. I've been told by several friends that this is a sign that OS X is at it's wits end trying to resolve a problem.

I'll be using Norton System Works and/or Disk Warrior to 'solve' the problem.

Thanks again!

you are having kernel panics....eck

well the first step to resolve this is to clear the pram as mentioned before.

you boot the computer holding the r, p, option, and apple keys at the same time and let the bong chime for about 4 times. then you release the keys and let it boot as normal.

the second thing to do is to clear the nvram. boot the machine while you are holding the o,f,option, and apple key at the same time. you will see a mac bios screen open. at the prompt type reset-nvram then press return. at the next prompt you will type reset-all and press return. your computer will boot as normal.

this might solve your problem. after you do this you should repair disk permissions.

happy recording,

Regarding disk utilities, for what it's worth Mac users generally speak highly of DiskWarrrior and ill of Norton. So if you were about to go and buy one, the consensus is that DiskWarrior is the best, probably followed by Tech Tool Pro, Drive 10, then Norton.

For a musician's Mac, Norton in particular seems to really interfere at a system level, causing almost as much trouble as it solves. It hasn't happened to me personally - I don't have Norton - but I've read plenty of posts along these lines.

Just my two cents. smile.gif

it is right.. norton is a beast, but you really don't need those tools at all. if you do what i have put on the board you will be doing all you really can. IMO those other apps the do jobs for you are just resource hogs.
