Hi, I need a tip from a pro since I have to choose between buying a used motu 828 (not the mkII) or a new maudio410. I get the same price for each one. I'm using a power mac G4 dual 867. What is the best pick for me? Are these cards similar? Help me so that I won't spoil my money. Thanks

hi Monette20, this might not be too helpful, but a client and friend of mine has recently purchased the firewire 410 from me and is using it with his ti book and absolutely loves it. It is rock steady and there have been no issues with it.

Just thought you might like to know that someone who has been using it is happy with it.

Ok, the 410 has asio 2, 2 headphone outs with independent level controls (very useful)
2x8 24 bit analog 1/0
192khz output(but only thru outputs 1 and 2, the rest are 96kHz which, quite honestly is probably enough!)
digital I/O w/ S/PDIF, AC3 and DTS (coax and optical)
1 x 1 MIDI I/O
powered via DC supply or FireWire bus*
dual mic/instruments preamps w/ gain control (66dB available gain) and phantom power
2 headphone outs w/ individual level controls
low-latency software monitoring; zero-latency direct hardware monitoring
analog outs can directly drive up to 7.1 surround
software-assigned level controller for tactile control of all input and output levels
2 convenient high-speed FireWire ports
requires 6-pin FireWire port

Ummm, signal to noise is 108 and it comes with some software, that my friend says is pretty intuitive but I can't recall what the software is!!.

Personally, I reckon it rocks because it is such a small and handy bit of kit.
Your setup is more than suitable to use the 410, and essentially I think it would more come down to the type of things you want to use it for. are you doing a lot of gigs and live stuff? or studio and interfacing with keyboards and so on? Vocalists?

Anyone out there able to assist with the original 828 specs and recommendation?
