Hi,
I am looking at buying a second hand mac in order to make music. I am a DJ an would like to experiment in making beats myself. I have used reason on a PC and felt comfortable using it. I now want to buy a mac and I believe in this day and age that I need to be looking a a G4 /800Mhz in order to use reason , cubase and plug ins including atmosphere. I have a budget of 700 pounds . Are my requirements reasonable? What can I expect for my cash? and what should I look out for? Any advice will be greatly recieved |

I'm in New York, but I imagine your budget will imply buying an iBook. Seems like it should handle Reason easily enough, but along with Cubase, I can't be sure. You will have to be careful about having enough memory...check with each of those for the minimum requirements. CPU speed and as much memory as possible should make for happy music making. Maybe you could get an Apple loan and get a Powerbook?
Cheers. Jonathan |

For me, I use the iBook since I don't keep the files there. The files are move to the faster computer with more harddrive space, the iMac. Get an iBook, but make it the highest of quality, then you will be able to run Cubase, as I do currently, with no problems at all. I also suppose this means you probably wouldn't have to take out an AppleLoan, though you still might not have the $$$ to get the best iBook, but it'd be less then a Powerbook. Then, with the money you saved you could invest in some more software or other hardware. I know you wanted a second-hand mac, but my suggestion is to not take that route and to simply save up and get what I suggested, since you'd want a good computer to run a studio.
